Fusion win crucial home match 5-3

26 Feb Fusion win crucial home match 5-3

Fusion TTC against North Ayrshire TTC

On Saturday the 25th of February, our Premier Division British league team welcomed North Ayrshire to South Bermondsey. The reverse fixture in Scotland had ended with a 4:4 draw, so this match was expected to be a tight affair and, indeed, it turned out to be.

Kazeem gave Fusion an early lead with a strong performance against Richard Main, winning 3:0. Lorestas was far below his usual level when he lost in straight games to Sean Doherty and Ade also struggled for rhythm in his first match against Christopher Main. Ade won a tight first game, but while Christopher improved over the next two games, Ade struggled to get his usual combative spirit going. In the fourth game the tide seemed to turn again when Ade secured four game points at 10:6, but unfortunately Ade couldn’t convert and lost the match.

With Fusion losing 1:2 in the match score it was up to Emran to bring the team back on course against Colin Dalgleish. He prevailed by a score-line of 3:1 in a very close match. Kazeem then delivered another convincing match against Sean Doherty, who could match Kazeem’s imposing play only in the second game, but Kazeem defended 2 game points and went on to, again, win 3:0.

Next, Ade was up against Richard Main, a match that was nip and tuck. When Ade leveled to 2:2 and took an early lead in the fifth game it looked like he would go on to win, but unfortunately a strong finish by Richard saw North Ayrshire level the match score again.

Now it was up to Lorestas to improve on his previous performance. The first game against Colin Dalgleish saw Lorestas struggle again. The second game was very tight but from 7:7 Lorestas hit his stride and raced away with the game. Once Lorestas had found his rhythm his topspin game was too much to contain for Colin and Fusion took a 4:3 lead.

Emran thus had the chance to secure victory for Fusion. He stormed out of the blocks to take the first two games. A close third game went to Christopher Main and when Emran was pegged back from 10:7 in the fourth to 10:10 the spectators sensed almost certain victory slip away. Fortunately, Emran didn’t lose his composure and sealed the game and overall match for Fusion with two well-executed points.

This victory leaves Fusion in 4th position of the table, just one point off third placed BATTS. With Cardiff City lurking only two points behind Fusion there is still a lot to play for in the remaining 4 matches of the season. The next match is in Widnes at Halton TTC, who are currently propping up the table.
