On the 6th of January, Fusion juniors and cadets arose early to head down to the East Midlands 4 Star tournament. It promised to be a tough outing for our boys and girls as England’s upcoming stars and top players from all over flocked to the event.

Band 1 bots cadets Josh Bruce and Robert Pelc both lost out in theĀ  group stages though not without a good fight. Still, Robert managed to secure a good win over tough competition.

Ben Hee and Chamika Weesinghe fared better. Both qualified in the first round of the cadets, however Ben had an surprise loss to an unknown from swerve, leaving him second in the group.

Ben and Chamika got through to the last 8. Ben played a tricky first round against a very good player – a new addition on the circuit from China. He fought hard and won 3-2 after being 2-1 and 10-8 down.

In the quarter finals, Ben beat max Stevens 3-0 while Chamika gave it all but ultimately lost 3-0 against England star Jamie liu. Chamika fought tooth and nail to get into the semi finals of the band one junior after being 2-1 up in games and leading 6-1 in the fourth.

Fusion girls also put on a strong performance. Lois Perryman had an excellent tournament beating Bhavika mistry and Katie Holt to progress to the quarter finals, where she lost a very close match to the England junior number 2 Charlotte Bardsley.

Meanwhile, Scarlett O’Neil progressed through her groups in the junior girls and finally succumbed to Holly Williams.

A special mention goes to Alexander Ahl, who was the pick of the boys this weekend. He showed fire, determination and control on the way to defeating the England junior star Isreal Awolaja, currently ranked number 6.

A great day for all involved and one the head coaches could be proud of. The Fusion contingent had great success, demonstrating that all the effort they had put in over the last months had made a big impact on their game.

These young stars are certainly rising and we anticipate a lot more success in the future.
