07 Mar Champions in Derby – Junior British League
Fusion fielded 4 teams in the Junior British League – 2 boys and 2 girls teams. Everyone performed admirably but, in particular, the fusion girls teams are really beginning to make their presence felt on the circuit.
Fusion 2 girls secured the second division dominating the weekend with an unbeaten run of 5 matches on the way to the title. They topped off the weekend with victory over swerve from Middlesborough. The team, made up of rising stars Lois Perry, Tameesha Hobbs and Scarlett O’Neil, all made excellent contributions on the way to becoming champions.
The boys premier league team played excellently with a number of notable wins: Joseph Hee and James Smith both defeated England number 1 Joe Clark. On the final day, the boys team snatched a well deserved 2nd place after beating the champions 4-2.
Joseph Hee remained unbeaten with 10 out of 10 victories. Including a victory over the highly rated Frenchman Thibault Baullient, the man to beat on the day.
The girls premier team had a successful weekend winning also 5 out of 5 matches. Alva Themnér, Tiana Dennison and Sophie Barlow were the team to beat and their performance matched up the expectation.
The boys second team in the second division of the Junior British league had a tough weekend but performed very well with each of them picking up very good wins. Alexander Ahl, Chamika Weerasinghe and Ben Foss gave a good account of themselves, playing at a high standard and showed great fight.
Throughout the weekend the fusion team players played hard and supported one another through victories and defeats. Their team spirit was a real sight to behold and demonstrated again that this club is as much about table tennis as it is about the community of players.
