Fusion Men & Women VETTS British League – Top Notch

18 Oct Fusion Men & Women VETTS British League – Top Notch

Fusion ‘s men  Vetts teams had there first weekend end Derby and returned to sunny London as division 1 leaders at the half way stage winning four of their five matches 5-1 and losing their last match 4-2 to Norwich.

Playing at number one for Fusion was the super talented and super blocker Tommy Cutler who showed his quality over the weekend winning all 10 of his matches producing some fine table tennis in some very tight games. Tommy was pushed all the way by many of his opponents and had a number of 5 set victories producing a fantastic performance against Richard Jermyn who was leading 7-3 in the 5th set and after taking a time out Tommy managed to win in 14-12.

Clive Carthy played at number 2 and after the first day had won 6 out of 6 of his matches which was a real achievement given he was carrying an injury to his side which affected his use of his forehand. On Sunday Clive managed to pick up one more win despite his injury which meant he won 7 out of 10 for the weekend.

Martin Smith, coming back from a year out due to injury managed to win 3  out of 4 matches, all 5 setters and Mark Wicker picked up 2 important wins from his 6 games played which meant that Fusion returned home with 8 points and are currently 2 points clear of the second team Forrester’s. The second weekend is in February and hopefully they can build on this lead and win the division which would mean being promoted to the premiere division.

Congratulations to all the players and well done for their play but more importantly for the great team spirit and support they offered to each other over the weekend.
