19 May Fusion Junior James Smith wins gold at national championships

James Smith was victorious at the National Junior Championships in the team competition as well as the mixed doubles. Teaming up with Josh Bennett and George Hazell, James Smith secured the crucial point in the final by defeating England Junior No2 Matt Leete. In the mixed doubles he paired up with Denise Payet. In the final they won the title with a 3:1 victory over Charlotte Bardsley and Matt Leete. In the boys doubles James also progressed to the final, this time teaming up with Ethan Walsh. In the semi-final they defeated top seeds Tom Jarvis and Luke Savill with a superb performance. In the final they succombed however to Matt Leete and Josh Bennett, losing 3:1 after a promising start.

Lois Perryman and Scarlett O’Neil competed in their first Nationals and did themselves proud with good performances. In the Cadet girls competition, both girls advanced from their groups, Lois pulling off a surprise by beating Katie Holt. Lois eventually lost to Mollie Patterson, while Scarlett was eliminated from the competition by Jasmin Wong.

Meanwhile, Fusion boy Aadil Anand won the BATTS Cadet Super Series tournament in Harlow. He progressed smoothly through to the semis where he saw off Daniel Hearn-Potton from St. Neots in 3 tight games. In the final he again met Louis Price whom he had lost to 3 times inside one week in April. This time, Aadil took revenge to win it in 3 high quality games and earn himself £100 price money.
